Harrison County Fair-2012

Wow, we had double the open-class entries that we've had in the past. Thanks to everyone who brought their items to enter, it made for a very successful showing. Thanks goodness, the hall was air-conditioned this year or it would have been almost un-bearable. It was so hot the days of the Fair, actually hotter than a firecracker!!!..Ann's Best of Show quilt was a show stopper. It got lots and lots of comments from people, women and men alike. It is beautiful, all hand appliqued, hand quilted and paper pieced compasses. Gorgeous!!  Slide #4 has a nice story that goes with it. When the gal that brought it in to enter, she told that the little framed picture of chickens was drawn by the great-grandmother. So she (the gal) made a quilt to depict the drawn picture. She had some really funky, embellished chickens that were so cute. Now I wish I had taken some close-up pictures of the chickens and the picture.. I guess I just will live and learn..Enjoy the slide show...

Quilt Turning 2012

On Saturday, July 21st, we had a quilt turning at the Harrison County Fair. This was our 5th annual quilt turning and it was well attended. We had 54 quilts brought to show. Some we had seen before but always nice to see again but most were "new" ones. Many of them were older quilts but some newer too. We think it was a very nice show and hope to do it again next year. I have to admit these aren't the greatest photo's. I could have had a better position and sometimes the holder's were just to fast for me. I hope you enjoy the slide show anyway!!

Piecemaker's Meeting 7-17-2012

On a hot July evening, we gathered for a fun and lively time. I don't remember the count but I would say we had between 55-60 members. And we added 2 new members that night also. The garage sale was a big successs and we made almost $750, the purse strings were open for sure. We didn't have a speaker for this meeting as we were supposed to bring a vintage quilt to show for our program. We first had our regular show and tell and then the "vintage" quilts were shown. Wow, we had some really pretty ones!! The slideshow below will show our prize quilts. The first 6 are our current show and tell and then the vintage quilt show begins.

We heard lots of memorable stories about these vintage quilts and they were so interesting..Most of them had no labels so we learned how important labels are to our quilts. Let's all make a promise to ourselves to label our quilts and tell our stories. It really is important!!

Also, don't forget to bring your antique quilts or whatever you have that the guild members would like to see.  Hope to see you on Tuesday!!!

Mini Quilt Retreat

On Saturday, May 19th, GerriSue, our current President, organized a Mini Quilt Retreat and it was well attended. We had about 22 people come and sew and sew and sew. GerriSue had a little mug rug, Make it and Take it for us to do.  Several of us did a mini  demo and it was just fun to see what everyone was working on.  One of the most interesting facts to me was that we had a 4 generation family attending. There was Lou, the matriarch, GerriSue; her daughter, Christine; Lou's grand daughter, and Abigail; Lou's great grand daughter.  I don't think that this would happen in many guild's...We are so proud of our 4 Generation Family!!!  I'm so sorry that I didn't get a picture of them but I will surely try to get one soon.
Here's Jill giving a demo on a new ruler that she has been using..she did a great job explaining it. Sure does help to have that visual lesson when it comes to some of those specialty rulers that are so expensive. We just had a good time, maybe you should organize a mini retreat for your was a good way to get to know some of our members better.  Fun was had by all!!!  Check out Karen's blog to see her quilt that she worked on at the retreat. It is already a show stopper and she's not done with it yet..Here's the link to it:
Until next time......

Here are the pictures from out last meeting on March 20, 2012. We had a good attendance and lots of good show and tell. Our planned program wasn't able to come but Jill found a replacement for us that worked out very nicely. We had Marilyn Alfers from Neola, Iowa and she gave a wonderful trunk show and talked about her quilting journey. She not only gave the program, she joined our guild!! Welcome, Marilyn, we hope you like our group. The slide show is a combination of our show and tell and Marilyn's trunk show..Enjoy!!

February 21, 2012, Slideshow

I am really late in getting this posted and I am going to try to get caught up within the next few days. The slideshow below is from our February 21st, quilt guild meeting. Our program was "Baby Quilts and Doll Quilts" and a display of dolls from the 1940's.  We had a great participation from our members and everyone loved seeing all the quilts that members brought. Some old, tattered and well loved and some more recent. They were all a joy to look at and I hope you like seeing them too. Enjoy!!
